Kiddie Park
This is what happens when you leave Dad alone with the baby. She doesn't look too impressed, but I did manage to get a little smile when I gently pushed her.

Riverfront Park
This afternoon we went down to Riverfront Park. The park is right next to the downtown area, and it is centered around the Spokane River and Spokane Falls. The area was revitalized in 1974, when Spokane hosted the World's Fair (Expo '74) in the park that year. The park has a gondola and amusement park rides in the summer; in the winter an ice skating rink. You can also watch a movie or see an IMAX film. There is a water fountain and carousel for the kids and on the 4th of July, fireworks.
Since we had never been on the gondola, we hopped aboard and then spent the rest of the time walking around the park. We learned that the clock tower was built in 1902 as part of the Great Northern RR passenger terminal and that Julia likes the taste of ice cream.

Manito Park
This morning Stacey, Julia, and I went to Manito Park on the South Hill. It's easily our favorite place in Spokane to walk around outside. We visited the ponds, lilac garden, Japanese garden, and rose garden. In addition, we enjoyed the beautiful foliage and homes that grace this part of town. After our walk, a nice cup of coffee at Rockwood Bakery concluded this delightful Sunday morning at the park.

Renee Juliet Heinz
Our beloved mother and grandmother, Renee Heinz, lost her fight with pancreatic cancer on the morning of July 11, 2008, at the age of 86. She is survived by her daughter Joan; son-in-law John; grandchildren Matt, Aaron, Stacey, and Patrick; grandson-in-law Aaron; granddaughter-in-law Brenda; great-grandchild Julia; brother Paul; and nieces Evelyn and Christine. Her amazing and challenging life began in 1922, when she was born in Vaxoncourt, France. During the Great Depression, her family left for Dijon in search of stable work. Renee lived in Nazi-occupied France during World War II, and in 1945 met the love of her life, Raymond Heinz, an American soldier. After corresponding for three years, they agreed to wed in Ray's hometown of Spokane in 1948. They owned and operated City Bakery from 1946 to 1963, when Ray's health declined due to MS. Renee dedicated herself to his home care until his passing in 2000. She never made it back to France. Renee, you demonstrated to us all the meaning of dedication, perseverance, hard work, love, and patriotism. Words cannot express how much we love and miss you. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the HAZEN & JAEGER FUNERAL HOME LOCATED AT 1306 N. MONROE ST., SPOKANE, WA 99201

Don't let anyone fool you, we've changed since then. I met 2 former Rams last night, which prompted me to dig out our senior yearbook to figure out who they were in high school. I ended up looking through the whole thing, and these are the four people that I believe have changed the most since that time (especially the rabid, floppy-eared one).

Israeli New Sheqel
We found the most interesting coin outside our house today...an Israeli New Sheqel. It's not everyday you find an Israeli coin on the sidewalk in Colorado Springs.
The reverse contains the value, the date, and Israel in Hebrew, Arabic and English. The obverse contains a lily, "Yehud" in ancient Hebrew, and the state emblem. Each item on the obverse is significant. The lily is commonly referred to in the Old Testament. Yehud is still a town in Israel, but the significance here is that it was in Yehud, in Judea, where they minted coins during the Persian reign around the 6th - 4th century B.C. Finally, the state emblem, is actually a Menorah.

Silly Picture Season
Since July 1st is the start of the transfer season, I went to the Spurs Official Website this morning hoping to be greeted by an announcement proclaiming a big signing. I didn't see any breaking news. However, I did see a thumbnail of Spurs Right Back and Scottish International Alan Hutton. I couldn't get a larger picture, so the thumbnail will have to do. Does he look like anyone you know?
