Kids on Bikes 24 Hour Relay

This weekend I participated in a team fundraiser for Kids on Bikes. Other than a team ride a few weeks ago, this was my first event with the team. I had signed up for the final shift of the 24 hours, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday on Team 2. There were a dozen or so teams that participated, but only a few of them were competitive.

After about 90 minutes or so I was pulled off the trainer to help our first team win the bonus sprint miles on the Watt Bike. I hadn't done any sprinting in a long time, but still was able to put down the second best max effort of the weekend.

This was also the first time that I had been inside the 7-11 Velodrome. It was really cool to see. I had a good time meeting some new people as well as riding for a good cause. Perhaps the best part of the weekend for me was another reminder of my physical strengths and weaknesses. I'll be headed back to the Velodrome in January to take a few classes so that I am able to learn more about the track and compete in some races, assuming I can find a track bike to use.

Julia's 12th Birthday!

I can't believe Julia is already 12 years old!

We celebrated her birthday this afternoon with a small family gathering. But don't let that fool you, she had a lot more things going on for her birthday than just that. In the morning I took her out to breakfast. Later that night she had a sleepover party with three of the girls on our street. And the weekend before, she had her actual party with a couple of other girls. That involved a mini shopping spree in Denver and another sleepover party. So, in other words, she really had four (or more) parties over the course of a week or so. Seems about right. Ha.

Saddle Up, Partner

Today we went horseback riding at the Air Force Academy stables. This was the first time that the kids had been horseback riding. We followed a trail that made a big loop that took about an hour to finish. Everything went really well. We even got the horses to trot a time or two.

Third Grade Cross Country

Jonathan has been doing cross country at school this fall instead of playing soccer. So far he's enjoyed it, and done pretty well! He's finished in the mid-teens at the last two meets, which has included two or three elementary schools worth of second and third graders. Go Buddy!
