2010/2011 Season

Well, we're officially a week away from the start of another Premier League season. Spurs and City kickoff the season with the first game on Saturday, August 14th.

This season has the potential to be a memorable one. The league aside, Tottenham should play in their first Champions League tournament ever. Our 4th place finish last season means we have a home and away playoff on August 17/24 for a chance to participate in the group stages of the Champions League. Yesterday they held the draw for the playoff round and we got Young Boys, a team from the Swiss league. We open up away at their place, Wankdorf (snicker), and finish with the return leg at home. It's an ideal arrangement and draw for us. They aren't pushovers but we should be able to advance past them. Many Spurs fans are hoping that we get put into a group with Barcelona or Real Madrid, should we make it past Young Boys. We don't expect much - just the experience of a big European night at White Heart Lane. We'll see how things pan out though. Advancing out of the group would be awesome.

As far as the league goes, I'm again cautiously optimistic. Chelsea and United will be fighting it out for the title while Arsenal should be third. I would lump us, City and Liverpool to make up the next group. I know it's exactly the same as last season, but not much has changed from a few months ago when we ended the season. It's hard to tell right now as the transfer window might not (if ever) heat up until the last minute (end of August). I'd be happy with a solid Europa Cup spot finish and a decent showing in the Champions League. If we go out early in the group stage in the Champions League, a deep run in one of the other cups would still make for a great season.

Come On You Spurs!
