Premier Entertainment League

This weekend's action in the Premier League was first class. On Saturday there were 41 goals scored in eight games...an staggering average of over five goals a game! League leaders Manchester United lost their first game all season to last place Wolves, 2-1. Second place Arsenal jumped out to a 4-0 lead at halftime, only to implode and give up four goals in the second half (the biggest lead lost in league history). Liverpool beat Chelsea, despite Liverpool's star striker switching allegiance to Chelsea last week (and playing against his former club today). All four clubs that start with the letter W have settled to the bottom of the league.

The Chelsea result was a huge lift for Spurs, who won 2-1 over Bolton with a last minute winner. Tottenham were awarded three penalty kicks, but the third call was overturned because of a previous offside ruling. The first two spot kicks were converted, except that the second penalty had to be retaken due to encroachment, and then subsequently missed. It was an up and down affair and very entertaining. With Manchester City winning on Saturday and Chelsea expected to win today, our hopes of a second consecutive 4th place finish looked bleak until the very end of the game.

Since we still play both City and Chelsea (both away matches), we are still right in the middle of the fight, despite injuries and last minute victories suggesting thoughts to the contrary.
